Experienced nurse leader brings a personal connection to hospice, a passion for community-based care and deep ties to the Roaring Fork Valley.
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — September 14, 2026 – HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley is pleased to welcome Denise Clough, RN, MS, NE-BC, as its new Administrator. Clough begins her role September 14, bringing decades of nursing and healthcare leadership experience along with a personal connection to hospice care and the community she calls home.
For Clough, joining HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley is more than the next step in her healthcare career. It is an opportunity to serve a community that has been part of her life for decades.
“Living in Glenwood, I see the need and the benefit of having hospice right here in the Valley where we live,” Clough said. “I have also experienced the care of this agency personally. My mother used HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley for my stepfather, and it was such a positive experience for our family.”
That experience is one of several personal encounters with hospice that have shaped Clough’s belief in the importance of end-of-life care.
“I have always been a proponent of hospice,” she said. “I think one of the greatest and most beautiful things we can offer someone is the opportunity to die with dignity. If someone wants to remain in their home, surrounded by their family, loved ones and the things that are familiar to them, I think being able to support that is incredibly meaningful.”
Clough’s connection to Glenwood Springs began long before she moved back to Colorado seven years ago. She first visited Glenwood Springs when she was 17, and the community has been home to her family for many years. While she raised her own family in New York, trips back to Glenwood became a tradition.
“It was always our vacation to come back home to Grandma’s,” Clough said. “I love Glenwood because it has that small-town feel while continuing to grow. It is beautiful, and there is something so unique about this community. Mount Sopris is one of my favorite things to look at, along with the river and everything that surrounds us. It feels like home.”
Clough returned to Colorado seven years ago to help support her mother, who is now 96. Today, she is excited to combine that personal connection to the region with her professional experience and help raise awareness of the home-based services available to families throughout the Valley.
“I love Glenwood, the surrounding communities and the entire Valley,” Clough said. “Living here myself, I see the value of these services, and I am excited to bring more awareness to hospice and home care and make sure people know these options are available to them.”
She looks forward to building on the organization’s service to the community while helping more families understand the role hospice and home care can play.
“I have seen many people die in hospitals throughout my career, and while there can be appropriate reasons for that, I have also seen people who may have benefited from being in a familiar environment surrounded by the people and things they love,” Clough said. “This role has sparked a new passion for me. Having experienced hospice personally and knowing what it means to have people walk alongside you as a family member, I want to help make sure that opportunity is available to anyone who chooses it.”
HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley CEO Melinda Egging said Clough’s combination of clinical expertise, leadership experience and personal commitment to the community makes her a natural fit for the organization.
“Her deep appreciation for this community and her genuine belief in the value of hospice and home-based care align beautifully with our mission,” Egging said. “We are incredibly excited to welcome Denise and look forward to the experience, compassion and leadership she will bring to our community.”
Clough brings extensive healthcare leadership experience to the position. Most recently, she served as Director of Clinic 2 Primary Care at Grand River Health in Rifle, Colorado. Her previous roles include Senior Nurse Manager at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong, part of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York; Manager of Clinical Services for The Monroe Plan for Medical Care; Nurse Leader at the University of Rochester; and registered nurse at the University of Rochester.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Portland, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, and a Master of Science in Leadership in Health Care Systems. She is also Nurse Executive Board Certified, or NE-BC.
Clough said she is looking forward to supporting the community by providing care each day and helping HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley continue serving families throughout the region.
