Frequently Asked Questions

Hospice is appropriate for any patient with a life expectancy of six months or less, as determined by a physician. This includes — but is not limited to — cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart and liver disease, COPD, ALS, and Parkinson’s. If you’re unsure whether a patient qualifies, reach out and we’ll help you determine the right level of care.

Earlier than most providers think. Many patients and families don’t access hospice soon enough to take full advantage of the support available to them. If your patient has a serious, life-limiting illness and curative treatment is no longer the focus, it may be time to have the conversation. We’re happy to help you navigate that discussion.

A physician must certify that the patient has a life expectancy of six months or less should the illness follow its expected course. If a patient lives longer than anticipated, Medicare will continue to cover hospice services as long as the certifying physician confirms the patient still meets eligibility criteria. Patients can also leave hospice and return if their condition changes.

Not at all. Hospice is about living fully with the right support in place — not giving up. Referring a patient to hospice means ensuring they receive comprehensive comfort-focused care that addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, while giving their family the support and guidance they need too.
