What Are Your Health Care Wishes?

As Hospice and palliative care providers, we know how important it is for families to make their wishes known to loved ones regardless of age or health status.

We find that families who take the time to plan and have those important conversations before a serious illness often find reassurance and comfort in knowing what is important to a loved one.Father and Daughter_istock photo

We like to stress the importance to our patients and their families about talking openly about the care they would or would not want if ever faced with a serious medical condition or life-limiting illness.

We suggest completing an advance directive (also known as a living will) and appointing a healthcare power of attorney (someone to make healthcare decisions for you if you are unable to speak for yourself).

It’s best not to assume that your doctor or your loved ones know what your healthcare priorities are.
