Alzheimer’s Workshop for Caregivers

Date: Tuesday, July 17, 2012
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs

Description:  HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley will offer a free workshop to caregivers, hospice volunteers, and family members who care for people with Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, July 17th from 1:00 -3:00 pm, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. This workshop gives information about how to guide people with Alzheimer’s through daily activities. Teresa Black from the Alzheimer’s Association and Nancy Becker, Social Services Director at Heritage Park, will be presenting the workshop.  Please sign up in advance by calling Wendy Steckler, Volunteer Coordinator, at 970-927-6650 if you are interested in attending.

Grief Recovery Outreach Program

Date: May 17 – July 17, 2012
Time: Tuesday evenings, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Eagle Public Library, 600 Broadway in Eagle, Colorado
Cost: $60 for all 12 sessions.

Description: Celynn McClarrinon, a certified Grief Recovery Specialist and Social Worker for HomeCare & Hospice of the Valley, will conduct a 12-week grief recovery outreach program at the Eagle Public Library. Whether your loss is from the death of a loved one, a divorce, or loss of career or health, this outreach program will guide participants who wish to resolve their loss issues through the grief and to a richer quality of life.

 

Grief and Loss Support Group

Date: Thursdays, May 24 – June 20, 2012
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 am.
Location: Bethel Chapel in Glenwood Springs
Cost: Free.
Description: We often remind our patients and families that grief is not an event.  It is a process that unfolds throughout the year at different times – and sometimes when you least expect it.

Sean Jeung, chaplain at Hospice of the Valley will offer a free, five-week Grief and Loss Support Group beginning Thursday May 24th through June 20th. The group will meet every Thursday morning from 8:30 – 10:00 am at Bethel Chapel in Glenwood Springs. Heart Through Art

Dates: May 23- June 20, 2012
Time: Wednesday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Location: Creative Spark Studio at The Third Street Center, Carbondale
Cost: $40 materials fee due at registration
Description: A five-week workshop for people with or without artistic ability who find themselves on the journey of grief and loss.

 

Hospice Volunteer Training

Dates: May 29  -  June 7, 2012
Time:  Tues., May 29th, Thurs., May 31st, Tues., June 5th, Wed., June 6th and Thurs., June 7th, from 5-8 pm.
Location: Hot Springs Lodge, 415 6th St. in Glenwood Springs.
Cost: Free

Description:  Participants must attend all five sessions. Attendees will learn about the hospice philosophy, how to support patients and families during the end of life process, grief and loss, the art of communication, as well as crucial care and comfort measures.

4th Annual Caregiver Conference

Date: Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Location: Glenwood Springs High School, 1525 Grand Avenue in Glenwood Springs
Cost: Free.
Description: All family and professional caregivers for adults welcome. Sponsored by Alpine AAA, AAA of NW Colorado, Garfield County Department of Human Services, and Northwest Colorado Options for Long-Term Care.
